PhotoDesk - for Instagram App Reviews

The good: 1. You get detailed statistics about your account. 2. Saving pictures and videos is just great. 3. There is a dark-mode for those who have set their Mac on dark mode. 4. Does everything other instagram-apps do. The bad: 1. News (i.e. notifications) never worked for me. This is one of the most important features and the main reason for my mediocre rating. 2. Custom search (i.e. Feed) does not work. 3. Window sizing and objects placements seem awkward sometimes. 4. Feed does not load sometimes when you switch back and forth between different sections. You have to close the app and reopen it. 5. A menubar option for quick feed/news checking would be good. 6. Im not okay with saving my browsing history and there being no options for turning it off...

I have no issues with the app whatsoever.

I bought this a week ago based on the good reviews and haven’t been able to use it once. When trying to login, it gives errors or just times out and my messages to support go unanswered. Very dissapointing.

If you go into full screen you can’t get out. All the top menus you can’t click on, you get no response and you have to force close to get out of full screen. It doesn’t act like all other full screens in that it doen’t take a new screen it uses the current one. Wrote the Dev but not getting any resopnce back. As long as you don’t use full screen with OSX 10.10.3 or 4 its very nice and works as its support to.

Review UPDATE: current version 3.1.2: I am very pleased to see that the developer of this program reads these reviews and works to fix issues/features that users may have/want. As of this version, 3 of my 6 critical problems that I have expressed before have been resolved. The 3 that remain are: 1) If you decide to choose the menu-icon only option, then you have to click your way through a drop down menu to actually show the app window unlike every other menu icon which opens the main window on click. 2)The main window has trouble remembering size (primarily height). 3)I wish there was a way to load the program in a “Hidden” state, like most apps. I have updated my review from 1 to 3 stars to reflect the changes and imporvements. A vast change because I believe the develpers took time and care in working out these kinks and making an overall VERY enjoyable instagram experience. I believe this program would be rated higher if the above were fixed / implemented as well. ------------------------------------- Initial Review version 3.1.0: To be upfront and honest, I’ve just started using this app. It is feature rich and has more to offer than any other Instgram OS X app on the market. The problem I have is with 6 different things: 1) I keep getting the 5000 request error, without knowing why.. 2) If you aren’t connected to the internet it notifies you of such, but offers a button to retry connection instead of just trying to reconnect like everyother app automatically does. 3) If you decide to choose the menu-icon only option, then you have to click your way through a drop down menu to actually show the app window unlike every other menu icon which opens the main window on click. 4) Don’t dare click the red (quit) button - it doesnt quit the app it just hides the main window, BUT unfortunetly you wont be able to view it by clicking the “Show Photodesk” menu selection - doesn’t work. Only fix is to force quit and start over. 5) The main window has trouble remembering size and location status on close. 6) I wish there was a way to load the program in a “Hidden” state, like most apps. If these 6 things were fixed, my review would be a heck of a lot different.

This is a really good Instagram viewer. I prefer the tiled thumbnails view it offers to the scrolling-only view offered by the Instagram website. I often have a lot of unviewed pics and it is a great timesaver to be able to choose the order in which I view posts. Works as advertised. Highly recommended. Things to address in future versions. - None of these views (icons, feeds, full image) should scroll left/right. But occasionally they do and since no horizontal scrollbar is provided it can be tricky to get the complete view to be visible again. Fix so that they appear in a stationary pane. - When viewing someone’s profile to follow, sometimes the images fail to load (no, not just private profiles and not just profiles with a lot of posts).

and I love how it always says “the Instagram network is slow”, no it’s just your app.

If you are looking for a clean layout thats super fast, then this is your app. Somethimes there are people you want to follow, but dont want to follow them on IG, welll the favorite friends tab lets you do this. It also will let you know how many new post that person as posted. There is a favorite tags tab too, so you dont have to type in every hashtag to search. Ever like and image on IG and want to save it? Thats easy, just drag the image (ful sized or thumbnail) to a folder or desktop and the original is saved. You can also Command + Click a group of images you want and drag the whole group to the destop at one time. This app supports multiple accounts and switching accounts is easy and fast. There is an export feature for those that like to have backups or settings. Get it, you will be happy.

I paid $5 after reading a few good reviews and wish I hadn’t done that. The features I expect (ie: being able to see my activity at the very least) just aren’t in the application. I’ll delete it and watch my money wash down the drain. I seriously regret this.

i just got this app and its just plain not working…..does log in and freezes……... how can i get my money back? ……………..no i will not suggest….. the good 5 star reviews probably its from them not from real users…..move on amigos!!

I loved the Photodesk app, however since the newest update I have a good reason to uninstall it. Just a few minor changes were applied, and download button was removed!! Such a shame! So.. no longer worth paying such an amounth of money for this app. sorry

Without the “Download” button this app is almost entirely useless.

They have removed the “Download" button and left that detail out of their release notes. Very shady. This was really the only useful function of the app.

UPDATE 2 (10-23-15) 3.2: I see a lot of 1 stars because a download button was removed? I don’t know if that was to download a picture but if you grab, drag, and drop the picture to your desktop it’ll work… (Like my comment so everyone can see) UPDATE 1: It does what it says… Its not to upload pictures! If they could do that they would obviously have done it! Instagram doesnt let them! Dumb people. I think its perfect. Beautiful interface. I would recommend it.

I cant take pics off to add to family albums anymore. whole point of getting this app, now i feel like i wasted my money

why remove a key function? download button removed, rendered useless.

Unfortunately it seems the app is no longer supported. Log-in to instagram doesnt work for you - waste of money.

After going over other reviews for this app, I decided to get it even though it seemed like there were some significant issues. So far, I’ve found three things that I don’t like. First, the app takes about twice as long as it should to load images, videos, etc. Second, the notifications don’t work. It says it checks for new notifcations every few minutes, but I’ve been watching people like/comment on a video I recently uploaded, and I still have zero notifications. Third, once you open the notifcation panel it does not close, no matter what you do, unless you click the notification button again. Seems like you could click somewhere else and have it close, or close when you change “albums” I guess they’re called. Anyways, as other people have said and as it says in the description (at least twice), you cannot upload pictures/videos. I did not want this function when I downloaded it, and I still don’t want it. I just wanted a client that would allow me to check my feed, search for users and hashtags, view my profile and my friends’ profiles, etc. Four stars because it does what I want it to do plus some, but the notifcations don’t seem to work which is kind of a bummer. EDIT: Apple made the dev get rid of the download function on the app, and because this was one of the main reasons I used this app, I have to lower my rating to 3 stars.

I work in social media for a top luxury auto brand. This is a great tool to use, you get an overall picture of whats going on. There are several view options that are great and navigating is pretty simple. The functionality offers more than any of ther other insta computer apps, so for a business standpoint, this is a great tool. For my personal use, I wouldnt use it (unless i had a ton of followers). I love the statistics feature. Feel and look is great! BUT! and its a big BUT…. Says this was updated in Dec 1, 2015. That was 10 days ago, Im not sure what it entailed, but they didnt seem to get all the quirks out right. The app freezes often. Going from one profile to another seems too much for it. The waiting game doesnt work so I have to keep force quitting. Its quite frustrating and time consuming. If it was a few times it would be ok, but Ive been on this site for about 3 hours and it has crashed 7X. If they can get the crashing together then, this would be a great buy. I would even say worth the $4.99 which is a lot for an app. I would not recommending pulling your wallet out for this one - not right now at least. If it did not crash as much, then I would prefer to use this app vs. Spredfast (Which is a social media managing program for businesses). Some others Id like to see: 1. I noticed that none of these apps allow for direct messaging. Its not even available on the Native site. I hope they decide to include that feature. As we have a lot of customers sending us DMs & its too overwhelming to manage over the phone app. 2. Notifications - the app should include notifications for tags, DM & comments.
