PhotoDesk - for Instagram App Reviews

I’ve purchased the base version and worked quite well. Then i decided to go Pro spending 9.99 dollars more. I hoped to use the professional version so I can have the statistics and control of the comments. The comments worked well but the statics (performance area) just didn’t work. It says that it would take about 2 hours to load. I left my computer on for the whole night (6 hours) and in the morning I still read from Photodesk that it is still loading!! I am very mad! I spent a lot and didn’t get the service I have expected. I want my money back.

I’m not sure if it’s still being supported / developed. Hasn’t been updated since 2015.. The app won’t let you post more than 4 hashtags in any comment.. it claims it’s a limitation of Instagram - but I can’t find anything in the T&C’s of Instagram, or their guidelines, about a limit of 4 hashtags per comment.. it is apparently a limit of 30.. but the app restricts to 4. There are a few minor bugs and the occasional crash, but despite that (and despite the 4 hashtag limitation) it’s still a good app and worth the money.. Answers to support emails would be nice though… Maybe the author is on holiday at the moment - in which case I’ll gladly edit this review and rating if and when he responds.

Nothing works on this crappy app! I even tried to send feedback and ask questions via the app, but it says I dont have a valid email address……. UGH what a waste of money….. DO NOT BUY THIS

I initially paid for the app to be able to see statistics, the feed in full view, etc. And now, because of a new Instragram policy, it has been removed. It really is up to new people who sign up to see if this product is still worth it because for me, they ruined it and there is no real benefit to this program anymore because of this new policy.

Not their faiult but this instagram app only sisplays your profile and nothing else. Basically useless at this point. Thanks for turning this app into something completely useless.

This app used to be my favorite Instagram viewer, but alas, the geniuses at Facebook (Instagrams parent company) decided to destroy it and any other third party app that would be of superior quality to theirs. BTW developer, you shouldve considered that some of us Mac power users prefer Mountain Lion (OS 10.8.x with Ruby 2 installed via hack) and Snow Leopard (10.6.x true universal Intel/PPC OS) to the crippled rubbish that has been the Apple OS X norm since Mavericks (OS 10.9.x) and perhaps more importantly, that many of us would rather buy full fledged software directly from developers.

Review UPDATE: current version 4.0.1 Nothing works. DO NOT BUY. A complete waste of money. —————————————————— Review version 3.1.2: I am very pleased to see that the developer of this program reads these reviews and works to fix issues/features that users may have/want. As of this version, 3 of my 6 critical problems that I have expressed before have been resolved. The 3 that remain are: 1) If you decide to choose the menu-icon only option, then you have to click your way through a drop down menu to actually show the app window unlike every other menu icon which opens the main window on click. 2)The main window has trouble remembering size (primarily height). 3)I wish there was a way to load the program in a “Hidden” state, like most apps. I have updated my review from 1 to 3 stars to reflect the changes and imporvements. A vast change because I believe the develpers took time and care in working out these kinks and making an overall VERY enjoyable instagram experience. I believe this program would be rated higher if the above were fixed / implemented as well. ------------------------------------- Initial Review version 3.1.0: To be upfront and honest, I’ve just started using this app. It is feature rich and has more to offer than any other Instgram OS X app on the market. The problem I have is with 6 different things: 1) I keep getting the 5000 request error, without knowing why.. 2) If you aren’t connected to the internet it notifies you of such, but offers a button to retry connection instead of just trying to reconnect like everyother app automatically does. 3) If you decide to choose the menu-icon only option, then you have to click your way through a drop down menu to actually show the app window unlike every other menu icon which opens the main window on click. 4) Don’t dare click the red (quit) button - it doesnt quit the app it just hides the main window, BUT unfortunetly you wont be able to view it by clicking the “Show Photodesk” menu selection - doesn’t work. Only fix is to force quit and start over. 5) The main window has trouble remembering size and location status on close. 6) I wish there was a way to load the program in a “Hidden” state, like most apps. If these 6 things were fixed, my review would be a heck of a lot different.

Facebook ruined Instagram from the moment they acquired it. Now they put developers like Benedict, who has put so much effort in creating and continueously improving a great app, out of business. Sadly there is absolutely no use for this app anymore unless you’re into statistics. The main reason you would want an app like this is to check your feed while on the computer, and have a posiblity to see pictures on a bigger screen than your phone. If Facebook wanted to keep control over the feed, they could have implemented rules for third party apps. Instead, they killed off everything. I have no respect for companies that crush small businesses like that. Perhaps they will allow third party apps to display the feed again, but until then, Photodesk is no longer doing anything but showing public accounts. You can still use the search function, and you can still see people’s posts but ONLY if their account is public, because even when you follow an account but it’s set to private, Facebook/Instagram will not allow you to see it. Thanks for all your great work over the past few years, Benedict. I hope that you will be allowed to at least display the feed again in the future. Your app always looked great and worked perfectly, and as far as it is allowed to do today, it still does.

Wasted $10 for pro version, but after many hours I get no statistics. Support wasn’t helpful.

Used to be my goto daily app, but once IG cut off the API to the feed, this app is useless. Sad to see it go.

Sure, new Instagram API wrecked this app. I get that. However, that doesn’t change that this was still a paid app. The developer is claiming a loophole to avoid paid upgrade rules, and the developer is stiffing those who have bought (and encouraged others to buy - which I have personally done for at least 25-30 new customers of this app within the past year) into this community with ditching any above-average features. Suddenly now that the developer wants people to buy a new app, a long-LONG-overdue redesign shows up in the current version. On top of that, the app isn’t even working for the remaining few things it is supposed to do. All apps are buggy. I get it. But this developer has lost my trust. I’m getting rid of this app, and discouraging my contacts from paying for the “non-upgrade.” Not only that, but I’ll be avoiding any and all apps that this developer may have developed.

This app can’t being connected to Instagram well. I got sevral errors first I start app. I provided user name and password but dosen’t work. It shown api error. anyway….. star 1 is enough If charge.

I can’t login its freezing and nothing happened after that, i think you need to update your app for new third party for instagram

Used to be the best Istagram client on mac but now its really bad. There’s no Feed view?! Then Theres an in app purchase to upgrade to “Pro” that is a joke. Im fighting tooth & Nail for a refund. Dont buy.

The app has become totally worthless. I can see all of my posts but can not see the feed. And yes I have 4.0.3 They wasted all their efforts on a litany of obscure features but removed the very core of what people use the app for.

Version 2.3.8 - The app crashes upon opening every time

LAST VERSION IS REALLY UNSTABLE! ITS EASY TO GET STUCK OR FORCE CLOSE HAPPEN ON MAVERICK AND LION FIX IT FAST!

I just updated to the latest version and I am getting an error every single time I like a photo. I can’t possibly reach the limit, because I can’t like anything! Please fix this bug! I used to like this app, but now it’s awful, I just use my phone instead.

You cannot post from your Mac, Desktop, Laptop to instagram like it says it can. Hope the software developer’s will donate the $5.00 I just spent to charity. They should be ashmed of themselves.

I wanted this app on my mac specifically to comment on photos, and respond to comments on my photos, which is harder on my iPhone than mac. There is a 15 per hour limit, which is not told to you until after you purchase the app, and agree to their disclaimer saying that istagram is getting rid of spam and this is the result. Nu-uh I can like and comment all day long on the instagram app, and should have the ability to do so here as well. If instagram is limiting use because this is not instagrams app, then that should be told to us before purchasing. Personally Id like my money back.
